Salem Chest Specialists
Pulmonary Care
Pulmonary medicine is used for the treatment of diseases related to the lungs and breathing. Salem Chest Specialists (SCS), part of the Clinically Integrated Network of Novant Health (NH), treat people with the full spectrum of pulmonary diseases. As part of the NH network, we maintain up to date electronic medical records using the EPIC-Dimensions format. For more education regarding common pulmonary diagnoses (i.e.; COPD, Asthma, Cough, Lung Cancer), we highly recommend visiting the patient education portal of our website.
SCS providers deliver outpatient pulmonary care at two clinic locations in Winston Salem, N.C., as well as inpatient pulmonary care at NH Forsyth Medical Center. We work very closely with our local colleagues in Primary Care, Cardiology, ENT, Allergy, and Oncology. Our unique collaboration with experts from the Derrick L. Davis Cancer Institute - Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Thoracic Surgery, Radiology, and Supportive Care - helps provide the most efficient and effective care possible for our patients with lung cancer.
Advanced Bronchoscopy Program
Salem Chest Specialists now has a dedicated Advanced Bronchoscopy Program as of March 2023 that is under the leadership of Dr. Farhan Ahmed. This program allows one of our advanced bronchoscopist to perform specialized procedures, including Navigational Bronchoscopy and Endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS), at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center two days every week. We have a dedicated nurse navigator who helps to track and facilitate referrals and results for our patients. Our team works closely with Novant Health’s nurse navigators to ensure the best possible care for our patients. The goal being to shorten the time frame from diagnosis of lung cancer to the treatment of lung cancer.
